A field trial was established at the field station of Regional Research Laboratory, Jammu-Tawi to study the comparative growth and performance of four Central American provenances of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis (Lanquin, Poptun, La Brea and Las Sa Banas) and one indigenous provenance of Pinus roxburghii from Jammu region (Tikri). Results of the study, spread over a period of eight years revealed that in the first four to five years Lanquin was ahead of all other provenances in tree height and collar diameter growth but thereafter La Brea started gaining better growth in tree height and collar diameter. tiHowever, in respect of breast height diameter growth, Lanquin continued to maintain its lead from the very beginning to the end. Lanquin and La Brea were closely followed by poptum in all growth parameters but Las Sa Banas lagged much behind all these provenances. The indigenous P. roxburghii provenances from Tikri was however, slowest to grow but had highest survival percentage, best stem form and branching habit and lowest percentage of defecti"e and irregularly formed trees without any sign of foxtail forms in it.- Germination Response of Seeds of Sesbania sesban Provenances to Different Presowing Treatments

Early growth and biomass of three Populus deltoides clones, G-3, G-48 and D-12, were evaluated in a field trial in the subtropical climate of Jammu (latitude 32° 30' N longitude 74°55' E; altitude 280 m above msl). Height and breast height diameter growth at 12-and 24-month's age were maximum in G-3 but the number and total length of all first order lateral ischolar_mains were minimum in G-3. On the other hand, height and breast height diameter growth were minimum in D-121 but the number and total length of all first order lateral ischolar_mains were maximum in D-121. The ischolar_main: shoot ratio was maximum in G-s but minimum in D-121. Height breast height diameter growth as well as the number and total length of all first order lateral ischolar_mains and the ischolar_main:shoot ratio were intermediate in G-48. However, the dry weight of shoot, ischolar_main and whole plant were maximum in G-48 both at 12- and 24-months age.- A New Variety of Firmiana colorata (roxb.) R. Br. The authors succeeded in inducing ischolar_maining of simple-and air-layers in Eucalyptus, sieberana F.v. Muell. And of simple-layer in E. macarthurI Deane ex Maiden. The simple layers in E. rieberana took almost 7 months to ischolar_main, whereas, the air-layers ischolar_mained within 2-4 months of girdling. The simple-layer in E. macarthouri ischolar_mained in about 3 months time.- A Tentativie Accounting of the Forest Flora of North Cachar Hills and Barail Range

The forests of North Cachar Hilis and Barail Range of Assam were explored by the author in February, 1971 and a large number of interesting specimens were collected. The present paper covers Dicotyledones, Polypetalae, with 314 species (+ 1 spp & 2 vats) representing 218 genera and distributed over 77 families. The system of Bentham and Hooker with modifications. Made in conformity with modern concepts has been followed. The scientific names of the plant listed in the present work have been corrected as for as possible.- Plant Wealth of Experimental Garden, Central Circle Botanical Survey of India, Allahabad
